By Honey Brook Fire Company
April 14, 2010

On April 14th 2010 a convoy of 28 trucks carrying steel from the World Trade Center towers made a 13 hour drive from New York City to Coatesville. The steel will become a part of the future National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum. The steel was made in Coatesville at the then Lukens Steel Company facility 41 years ago to become the base of the Twin Towers. Due to the destruction from the terrorist attacks on September 11 2001, they have found their way home. A group of emergency responders were at the former main office of the steel mill at South 1st Avenue and Harmony Street in Coatesville City to play a part in the return of these steel "trees". After the convoy of trucks arrived a ceremony commemorating the event was held on the grounds of the Lukens Historic District with numerous dignataries speaking about the days event.
Engine 33-2 was in attendance representing the Honey Brook Fire Company with Chief Messner, Firefighter Ott, and Firefighter Nierintz staffing the engine. The crew socialized with fellow firefighters, steelworkers, local citizens, and local government officials until the arrival of the convoy and the beginning of the official ceremonies. Once the ceremonies were completed the crew returned to Honey Brook...humbled.

Units: Engine 33-2
