Morning Accident With Entrapment

On Friday morning June 15th, 2012 at 07:47 hours the Honey Brook Fire Company (33) and Elverson EMS (89) were dispatched to Route 322 and Cambridge Road in Honey Brook Township for a motor vehicle accident. Initial reports were of a minivan verses a tractor trailer. Rescue 33 responded at 07:52 with 8 personnel. Chief 33 (Messner) arrived at 07:53 and assumed the "322 Command" and upgraded the accident to entrapment. One subject was pinned in a minivan after striking a tractor trailer hauling gasoline. Rescue 33 began the extrication process with Captain 33 (Stoltzfus) having the operations role. Engine 33-1 assisted with hazards on both vehicles and the extrication. Squad 33 and Traffic 33 handled traffic control along with Martin's Corner Fire Company Fire Police (34) at Route 322 at Birdell Road. Ambulance 33-2 handled patient care with Medic 93-3 on the trapped subject while Ambulance 89-2 evaluated the truck driver for injuries and cleared a short time later. The patient of the minivan was extricated at 08:18 hours and was transported to a local trauma center. Crews then assisted the towing company with clearing the vehicles from the roadway with the last units clearing at 14:20 hours.

Engine 33-1 handled a smoke detector activation on Windswept Lane during the incident.
