June 14, 2012

On Thursday evening, members from the Honey Brook Fire Company gathered at the Wagontown Fire Company to recognize the Spring 2012 Firefighter 1 Graduation Ceremony.

Firefighter's Matthew Fischer and Gary Ream from the Honey Brook Fire Company attended the course starting in late February 2012 and finished the beginning of May. The Firefighter 1 program is a 170 hour course conducted by the Chester County Fire Training Academy in compliance with the PA State Fire Commissioner Office guidelines.

Firefighter Matthew Fischer gave a speech during his the ceremony on behalf of the class thanking his instructors and classmates for the dedication of many hours and nights at teaching each other the skills of becoming a firefighter. Firefighter Fischer was then awarded the Class Cadet Award. The Class Cadet Award is selected by members of the class submitting secret ballots to the instructors with their choice of which classmate has had the greatest impact on the training in class or classmates.

The course takes a member with no training and/or experience and trains them to become State Certified Firefighters. The class members spend two weeknights and every Saturday and Sunday for the length of the class learning how to become firefighters and operate and members of a crew to rescue trapped victims and extinguish building fires, vehicle fires and gas fed fires.
