By Asst. Chief John Robb & FF/EMT Chris Eno
December 16, 2014

On the evening of Monday December 15th, the members of the HBFC met for their weekly training .

After the weekly equipment and truck checks were completed , the members staffed the apparatus and headed out for training on Westbrooke Drive. The topic of the training event was engine company operations and water supply . Crews practiced advancing hand lines , humat valve water supply and new driver pump operations.

During the training detail , Station 33 was alerted to the intersection of Route 322 and Birdell Roads in Honey Brook Township , for an auto accident reported serious. Due to our ambulances being assigned to a serious accident in Morgantown, MICU84 was dispatched to respond from the EMS transfer assignment at Elverson. Engine 33-5 and Rescue 33 promptly responded from the training detail while Squad 33 responded from the firehouse. In addition, both 33 ambulances were returning the area and also marked up as responding.

Deputy 33 (Klinger, Jr.) arrived on the scene to find a 2 vehicle accident blocking traffic. Crews arrived on scene and performed traffic control , incident stabilization , controlled hazards and assisted EMS with patient care. Station 49 (East Brandywine) was dispatched to close Route 322 at Cupola Road.

Ambulances 33-2 & 33-3 transported the drivers from both vehicles to local hospitals for treatment, while MICU84 obtained patient refusals from the two passengers of the truck.

After the incident was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police, both vehicles were removed by Stacey's Towing. Units cleared the scene after the debris was removed from the roadway.

The Honey Brook Fire Company would like to remind drivers to be patient and to exercise extreme caution when traveling around or through an accident scene. Last evening, as the units were arriving, and before the intersection could be closed, several vehicles travelled though the scene and there were a few close calls between people and vehicles. Not only are people placed at risk, damage to tires could occur as the vehicle is driven through debris.

Units: Engine 33-1, Engine 33-5, Rescue 33, Squad 33, Traffic 33, Ambulance 33-2, Ambulance 33-3

Mutual Aid: MICU84 (Goodwill-Pottstown), Utility 49 (East Brandywine), PA State Police, Stacey's Towing
