The Honey Brook Fire Company would like to take the time to say thank you to the men and women of the Armed Forces who served previously or are still currently serving. Veteran's Day is a day of remembrance for all Armed Force's Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces in Defense of America.

Originally Veteran's Day was not known as Veterans Day at all but as Armistice Day. Below is a brief history of how this National Day of remembrance came to be.

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In proclaiming the holiday, he said

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

The United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution seven years later on June 4, 1926, requesting that the President (Calvin Coolidge) issue another proclamation to observe November 11 with appropriate ceremonies. On May 13, 1938, Congress made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday; "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'."

After WWII, the idea came around to make Armistice Day a holiday to honor all Veterans, not just WWI veterans. In 1954 the official name was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

The Honey Brook Fire Company would like to thank its group of members who not only at one time served in the Armed Forces but also continue to serve the community.
