At 0906 hours, Station 33 (Honey Brook), Ladder 49 (East Brandywine) and Ambulance 189 (HB-Elverson EMS) were dispatched to the 3100 block of Horseshoe Pike for a reported chimney fire. Deputy 49 (Edwards) and Chief 33 (Klinger) arrived to find a 1 story single family dwelling with an active fire inside the chimney. Chief 33 established Horseshoe Pike Command and Deputy 49 was assigned was the fireground operations officer.

Crews arrived and immediately went inside to empty the wood stove while additional crew member went to the roof to begin dropping chains to free the debris in the chimney up. Once the main chimney was cleared it was discovered that a large amount of debris had fallen into a void space behind the fireplace. Crews worked with hand tools for almost an hour to breach the block chimney to that the fire could be extinguished completely.

Crews cleared the scene at 1044 hours.
