Serious Accident Closes Route 322

Shortly before 15:00 hrs. on September 6th, 2016 the Honey Brook Fire Company was dispatched to Route 322 and Cambridge Road in Honey Brook Township for an automobile accident. The Elverson-Honey Brook EMS(189) was dispatched to assist. Assistant 33 (Messner) and Ambulance 189-2 responded and were advised of a tractor-trailer verses a car with no further info.
Ambulance 189-2 arrived to find a 4 door passenger vehicle rear ended by a tri-axle block truck. Both vehicles were off the road with 1 patient trapped in the heavily damaged car. The call was immediately upgraded bringing the Brandywine Medics(93) and placing an aero-medical helicopter on standby.
Assistant 33 arrived and assumed the "322 Command" and had Rescue 33(with 8) setup for stabilization of the car and a door pop for rapid extrication upon arrival. Engine 33-1(with 6) arrived and was assigned to handle the LZ (landing zone) as the helicopter was dispatched to the scene as crews determined the patient had serious injuries. The patient was quickly extricated and packaged for a flight to a local trauma center.
Due to the seriousness of the accident. The Pennsylvania State Police ordered the complete closure of Route 322 and adjoining roads to complete a thorough investigation. Numerous fire police from Honey Brook and neighboring fire companies were dispatched to assist, including the Wagontown Fire Company, Westwood Fire Company, Twin Valley Fire Company, and White Horse Fire Company.
