Rural Fireground Water Movement Drill

By Honey Brook Fire Company
April 20, 2009

On Monday evening the Honey Brook Fire Company attended a rural fireground water movement drill in Salisbury Township, Lancaster County. Honey Brook Fire Company was asked to provide an engine, tanker, and traffic unit by the Salisbury Township Fire Company of White Horse (4-9). The 33 units traveled to Station 4-9 and staged along with numerous other fire companies prior to the drill starting.

The drill was a simulated structure fire and units were dispatched in increments to imitate a true response in an actual fire. The drill consisted of flowing large caliber water lines using fold-a-tanks and a drafting engine being supplied by a shuttle of 12 tankers to keep the water flow moving. There was a tanker loop setup with 2 fill sites using Engine 4-2-2 at one site and Engine 4-5-2 at the other. This was done to facilitate keeping the tankers filled so they can dump their water into the fold-a-tanks. Engine 4-4-1 was the drafting engine at the fold-a-tanks and supplied Hose 4-3 who in turn supplied the 4-9 engine company. Traffic 33 and Squad 4-4 provided traffic control and Engine 33-2 stood by at Station 4-9 in case of emergencies.

Once the drill was completed all units returned to Station 4-9 for a critque, refreshments, and fellowship among the crews before returning to their respective firehouses.

Thank you to Station 4-9 for the invitation to train together and to all the companies for attending to make this drill happen.

Units: Engine 33-2, Engine 33-5, Traffic 33

Mutual Aid: Various Lancaster County units and Engine 34-5
