MVC With Entrapment
By Honey Brook Fire Company
November 13, 2009
On Friday afternoon, shortly after 3 pm, the Honey Brook Fire Company and the Brandywine Medics were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment in front of 501 Chestnut Tree Road in Honey Brook Township. Deputy 33 (Messner) responded shortly after dispatch and was advised of one vehicle into a pole with 2 reported trapped and that a second BLS (Basic Life Support) unit was being added to the assignment. Assistant 33 (Jackson) was in the area and arrived first and assumed the Chestnut Tree Command while confirming the report and adding that the driver self-extricated himself and fled the scene. Deputy 33 arrived and took the role of Operations Officer. Ambulance 33-2 arrived and started patient care. Brandywine Medics arrived and assisted with patient care as well as requesting an aeromedical helicopter to the scene. Ambulance 89-1 arrived and checked on the welfare of the fleeing driver with no luck. Rescue 33 arrived and its crew of 8 deployed with its complement of rescue tools to extricate the passenger. Crews stabilized the vehicle, which was against a pole on a road bank, using rescue struts. Once completed the crew performed a roof removal allowing the crews more space to free the patient from the vehicle. The patient was extricated in 20 minutes and flown to a local trauma center by a Medevac helicopter. Traffic 33 and 33 Fire Police closed down Chestnut Tree Road for the duration of the incident. Units were in service for an hour and a half.
