By Deputy Fire Chief Barry Messner
March 19, 2008

During the lunch hour on Wednesday March 19, 2007 the Honey Brook Fire Company was dispatched for a Rapid Intervention Team or "RIT" to assit the East Brandywine Fire Company (49) with a working building fire on Manor Road. Rescue 33 responded within 4 minutes with a crew of 8 and upon arrival staged the apparatus. The crew gathered the neccesary equipment and proceded to set up a RIT staging area in front of the fire building. As this was being accomplished Engine 33-5 was requested to assist with a tanker shuttle to help supply water to the fire scene. There are no hydrants in the area of where the fire occurred. Engine 33-5 responded within 4 minutes with a crew of 6. Upon arrival, Engine 33-5 dumped its 3000 gallons of water into a Fold-a-tank. The water was then pumped to the fire scene to help with extinguishment of the fire. Meanwhile, Rescue 33's RIT crew leader performed a complete walk around of the fire building noting various things such as building construction, fire advancement, utility locations, and crew positions. This information was then relayed to the entire RIT crew in case a deployment was needed. Fortunately, the RIT team was not needed and was stood down by Deputy 49 (Witmer) to help with mop up. Shortly thereafter, Rescue 33 was released from the scene as a 2nd call was being dispatched for Honey Brook to assist Martin's Corner (34) with a stove fire. Rescue 33 responded from Manor Road as Engine 33-1 responded with 6 from Station 33. Lieutenant 34 (Barr) arrived on location with Engine 34-1 and held the response to what was on the scene. Rescue 33 and Engine 33-1 went available with Engine 33-5 being released from the Manor Road fire a short time later.
