Members Staff Station During Snow Storms
By Deputy Fire Chief Dan Brooks
February 12, 2010
During the recent severe snow storms that have hit the area, members of the Honey Brook Fire Company staffed the station 24 hours a day for several days. Four career members staffed the two ambulances while volunteer members staffed the fire apparatus and supplimented the EMS crews. During the two snow storms members ran appoximately 15 calls consisting anywhere from four wheel drive assists with the ambulances, odor investigations, furnace malfunctions, chimney fires, etc. During the Wednesday snowfall, the station was also staffed with a Paramedic from the Brandywine Medics due to the long time distance (approx. an hour at the peak of the storm) if they were to come from the Hospital. Also during the peak of the mid-week storm a "Command Center" was set up at Station 33 in order to streamline the EMS and fire responses that were coming in and coordinating responses with the local police and road crews. Both ambulances, Brush 33, and the newly introduced Squad 33 ran numerous emergencies throughout the Honey Brook and neighboring municipalities.
