Members Attend RIT Training Course
By 1st Lieutenant Dan Brooks
March 31, 2008
Three members of the Honey Brook Fire Company attended a training course in Rapid Intervention Teams, or "RIT" this weekend. A quick background of RIT; when you look at who people call when they get into a bad situation, citizens call 911, police call for fire and ems, but who do the firefighters call on? This thinking brought about the formation of Rapid Intervention Teams that are called into fires and other incidents where firefighter's may be in danger of getting trapped or injured. For example, if a firefighter gets lost or disoriented in a fire, the team is activated and makes entry and finds the downed firefighter, assures the firefighter is stable and breathing, and finds the quickest way to get him or her out of the building.
The course, taught by Traditions Training, started off Saturday morning with a four hour classroom powerpoint presentation before moving to the hands-on section Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The Parkesburg Fire Company hosted the class and had been given permission to hold the class at an abandoned grocery store which worked out well for the class. Thanks to the Parkesburg Fire Company for providing lunch for the class.
