By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Klinger, Jr.
March 13, 2012

At 01:38 hours Station 33 (Honey Brook), Station 34 (Martin's Corner), Ladder 49 (East Brandywine) and Engine 48-1 (Glen Moore) were dispatched to the Rockville Mobile Home Park in Honey Brook Township for a trailer fire. Deputy 33 (Klinger) responded and was advised by the Chester County Fire Board of a reported fire in the living room, with exposures to other modular homes and the residents evacuated.

Deputy 33 arrived reporting smoke showing from the front of the building and established Violet Drive Command. Engine 33-1 (Robb) arrived and began an aggressive interior fire attack and primary searches of the building. Engine 34-5 (Lewis) arrived a minute later established a supply line to Engine 33-1, stretched a backup line in place and Chief 34 (Lewis) was assigned the role of Operation Chief. Deputy 49 (Witmer) arrived shortly there after assuming the Safety Officer position. Ladder 49 arrived and began ventilation of the fire building. Command reported the fire knocked down and all hands working 4 minutes after arrival of the first in Engine Co. The Chester County Fire Marshals were dispatched and investigated the cause of the fire which was determined to be accidental.

Note, working smoke detectors alerted the occupants to a fire in the living room giving them enough time to wake other family members and evacuate the residence safely. Please be sure to check your homes smoke detectors and remember to replace the batteries twice a year when you change your clocks. Had smoke detectors not been working and installed the results could have been far worse for this family. If you have questions about smoke detectors or need assistance with them please contact the Honey Brook Fire Co at 610-273-2688 or info@honeybrookfire.org.
