| On the morning of Sunday September 11, 2011 six members of Honey Brook Fire Fire Company traveled to the city of Coatesville to participate in The Graystone Society's 9/11 Memorial Service. The goal, according to Scott Huston, President of The Graystone Society, was to "honor those who lost their lives on 9/11" The ceremony included remarks from local, regional, and state dignitaries, as well as performances of various music selections by local performers. Additionally the Greater Coatesville Girl Scouts helped mark the flight departures and crashes by sounding a bell and asking for a moment of silence. Over seventy Chester County Emergency Services workers were on hand to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Probably the most tangible reminder of this solemn occasion was the steel structural shapes known as "trees" that were present. These trees were made at Lukens Steel in Coatesville and framed the first nine floors of the World Trade Center. Additional information can be found here: http://www.honeybrookfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=249 The Honey Brook Fire Company would like to thank all those who made the 9/11 Memorial a reality. Additionally our thoughts and prayers continue to be offered to those whose lives were forever changed that fateful day. |
