By Assistant Chief John Robb
October 8, 2013

At 11:31 am Station 33 (Honey Brook), Ladder 69 (Twin Valley) and Station 49 (East Brandywine) were dispatched to 4500 block of Horseshoe Pike for a reported house fire. Chief Ely of the HB Borough Police Department arrived and advised the Chester County 911 Chester of smoke showing from the residence and it had been evacuated.

Engine 33-1 arrived at 11:37, confirming the report and Assistant 33 (Robb) established "Horseshoe Pike Command." Initial crews made entry into the structure to find a fire in the living room area, which was quickly extinguished. The fire was brought under control 11:48 am and crews began ventilating the structure as well as conducting a search to ensure no civilians were still inside. Crews then waited for and assisted the Chester County Fire Marshall's to arrive and begin their investigation of the fire.

The homeowner reported he home and sleeping at the time a smoke detector alerted him of the fire and he exited his house and called 911. Without a working smoke detector, the outcome could have been drastically different. October fire prevention month, please check your smoke detectors and make sure the are in working order, if you need more information please visit our fire prevention page for more fire safety tips.

All crews returned available at 1:59 pm.
